May We Register Your U.S. Copyright? It WILL be in YOUR name and YOU will receive the copyright certificate.

Why is copyright registration so important?

1. If someone steals your work, or portions thereof, you can’t file a lawsuit until the copyright has been registered. Obtaining a certificate from the government can take months. “A delay of even a few weeks in bringing suit could prove irreparable—particularly those seeking temporary restraining orders or other preliminary injunctive relief.”

2. “It allows the plaintiff to collect enhanced “statutory damages”, and to be eligible for an award of attorney fees.”

3. Damages can range from $750 to $30,000 per work. Proof of willful infringement can increase damages up to $150,000 per work.

The Fine Print:

You must own ALL rights to your book (co-authors can both be included on the application) and you, as the author, are responsible for pursuing any copyright infringement committed against your work(s). BookLocker takes no rights from authors so we do not file copyright infringement lawsuits. That means we also get nothing if you a lawsuit against an infringer. It’s YOUR book. 🙂

COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION FAQ

WHERE CAN IS SIGN UP?

Click HERE. The cost is $99 per title. You only need one registration, even if your book is paperback, hardcover, and or ebook formats.

DOES THIS APPLY TO ME?

Our copyright registration service is for books that are already on the market and where the author has not yet registered their own copyright.

I ALREADY REGISTERED MY COPYRIGHT. DO I NEED TO PAY YOU TO RE-DO IT?

Nope! This service is only for books that have not been previously copyrighted by the author. You do NOT need to re-register your copyright.

HOW CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF THE COPYRIGHT I FILED A LONG TIME AGO?

Per: https://www.copyright.gov/fls/sl09.pdf

What is the status of my application?

If you file your copyright claim electronically, you can check the status of your claim online. If you file a paper application, we recommend that you send it by a method that will confirm delivery. The Copyright Office cannot confirm receipt of mailed applications for about six weeks. After that, you can select Contact Us at www.copyright.gov to check the status of your claim.

CAN YOU FIND MY OLD COPYRIGHT INFORMATION FOR ME?

Unfortunately, we can’t access your account in the Library of Congress system. You will need to contact them directly using the link under the previous question.

WHY DIDN’T YOU COPYRIGHT MY BOOK WHEN IT WAS FIRST PUBLISHED?

We did not begin offering copyright registration services until October, 2018 so the cost was not included in our low setup fees. We are offering this service as a convenience to authors who don’t want to navigate the government’s problematic website themselves. Our competitors charge $169 or more for the exact same service. We only charge $99.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER COPYRIGHTS FOR MY PAPERBACK, HARDCOVER AND EBOOK EDITIONS?

Since the interior content will essentially be the same, you we do not recommend registering separate copyrights for your different editions. You really only need one.

MAY I PAY FOR COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION AND A LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CONTROL NUMBER AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes. The copyright registration is $99. The LCCN service is $50. Total: $149 per title. Please use THIS ORDER FORM.

NOTE: Only purchase the LCCN service if your book is not yet published or if you are revising your book.

  1. I sent in all the paperwork to the Library of Congress for my two books (HC PB) over a year ago June 2017 but I never received anything back from them. I even sent them a copy of each book.
    Is that normal?
Remember my book is “My XYZ’s of Excellence – 26 Days to Excellence in Business Leadership and Life.”
    Thank you,
